Pune: Sassoon gets Rs 12.44 crore to expand COVID-19 testing capacity

Pune: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday held a review meeting on COVID-19 and directed the administration to ensure that test results should be gained within 24 hours. The government has allocated Rs 12.44 crore to increase the testing capacity of Sassoon General Hospital.

The screening capacity, number of positive patients, medical background, ward wise number of patients, containment zone wise status, institutional quarantine capacity, screening of senior citizens, a condition in rural areas as well as treatment facilities were some points which were focused on in the meeting.

Ajit Pawar said, "A fund of Rs 8.90 crores has been sanctioned for the equipment required for testing the COVID-19 and Rs 3.53 crore has been sanctioned for the machinery and equipment. Apart from this, a fund of Rs 7.15 crore has also been provided for other necessary machinery. The necessary funds have been provided for the posts of nurses and helpers in hospitals."

"The administration should immediately provide the required manpower for the laboratory for testing the samples and also ensure that the number of patients and deaths in Sassoon, Naidu, Yashwantrao Chavan Hospitals and other hospitals to be treated well,” he added. Ajit Pawar also gave clear instructions that negligent doctors will not be spared.

 PMC Mayor Muralidhar Mohol highlighted the need to increase the bed capacity in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Dr Subhash Salunkhe further added that planning is needed to provide beds to the needy patients on priority. Divisional Commissioner Dr Mhaisekar informed about the measures being taken by the administration to reduce the death rate.

District Collector Naval Kishore Ram said that the administration was making efforts to control the number of patients in the rural areas near Pune city and also succeeded in reducing the number of patients in the taluka where patients were found earlier.

On Friday, a review meeting on coronavirus infection prevention measures was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at Pune. The meeting was attended by PMC Mayor Muralidhar Mohol, Divisional Commissioner Dr Deepak Mhaisekar, Commissioner S Chokkalingam, Pune City Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham, Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram, Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Sandeep Bishnoi, Pune Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Co-operation Commissioner Anil Kavade, Sugar Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Animal Husbandry Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh, Director of Groundwater Development and Survey Kaustubh Divegavkar, Additional Commissioner Rubel Agarwal, District Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Ayush Prasad, Sassoon's in-charge Dr Muralidhar Tambe, Retired Director General of Health Senior officers of various departments including Subhash Salunkhe and more.
