Pune: RTO gets 6,525 new vehicles registered in Unlock 1.0 phase

Pune: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has registered 6525 new vehicles in the Unlock 1.0 phase and generated a revenue of Rs. 30.24 crore indicating that normalcy is returning slowly and steadily in the city.

RTO was closed for citizens since March as the lockdown was enforced in the city to curb the spread of coronavirus. After relaxations were given in the lockdown by the central and state government, RTO started functioning partially from May 18. New vehicles registration was started in this phase with certain restrictions imposed on visitors in the office premises. Pune RTO started functioning fully since June 22 and on an appointment basis only. RTO has asked only 20 per cent officers and other staff to join the office. These officers are doing 21 types of work on a priority basis. Maximum 850 citizens are being offered services daily by the RTO. Since May 18 to June 30, about 6525 new vehicles have been registered at the Pune RTO.

Deputy Regional Transport Officer Sanjeev Bhor said, "This year's number of new vehicles registration is just 30 per cent to as compared to the registration count of last year during this same period. When all other businesses are badly affected, we are glad that new vehicles are being purchased and registered with RTO. It is an indication that normalcy is returning slowly and steadily and businesses are restarting."

"We have appealed citizens to visit www.parivahan.gov.in website to get an appointment from RTO for their vehicle-related work. Even though citizens are given appointment, RTO has placed restrictions on their movement inside the premises and also several precautionary measures are being taken. Citizens should keep six feet distance between two visitors or applicants and they will be permitted only if they are wearing mask and gloves," Bhor said.

  • Two-wheelers registered - 3,956
  • Four-wheelers registered - 2,083
