Pune: Robbers steal cash from ATM to pay bills for COVID-19 treatment of parents

Pimpri: Pimpri Chinchwad police arrested a gang for allegedly breaking ATM machines and stealing cash for treating parents suffering from the coronavirus.

The unidentified gang broke the ATM, stolen the cash from the machine and later threw the machine in the river. The ATM was located at Thermax Chowk in Chinchwad. The police arrested Ajaysingh Arjunsingh Dudhani (20), a resident of Manjari Budruk in Hadapsar and his associate Shairya alias Shrikant Vinod Dhotare (23), a resident of Hadapsar.

PCMC Police Commissioner Sandeep Bishnoi along with Additional Commissioner of Police Ramnath Pokhale, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudhir Hiremath, Assistant Commissioner of Police RR Patil and inspector Uttam Tandage briefed this incident in a press conference.

ATM outlet of ICICI bank is situated at Thermax Chowk. On June 8, the gang allegedly brought a tempo traveller vehicle, entered into ATM and took out the whole ATM machine and placed into the tempo and fled. After stealing the cash, the gang threw away the ATM machine into a river.

The duo was arrested by PCMC crime branch unit one sleuth based on the CCTV camera.

According to police, "The gang procured the ATM machine which had cash Rs 5.71 lakh in it. They brought the machine near to the house with the help of a gas cutter, managed to break the ATM machine, robbed the cash and also distributed money amongst each other. Later the machine was disposed of some 150 metres from their residence."

Police officials added, "Shrikant one of the gang member used the stolen money for repaying the bills at the private hospital for his parent illness. His mother and father were undergoing treatment of COVID-19."
