Pune: Reopen study rooms demand competitive exam aspirants

Pune: Aspirants preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) competitive exams have demanded that the government should allow reopening of study rooms in the city to enable students to focus on their studies.

MPSC has recently announced the timetable of preliminary examinations to be conducted in September, October and November. Around two lakh students from different parts of the state land in Pune city to prepare for the competitive examinations. Along with private coaching classes, study rooms have equal importance from a student's perspective. Study rooms are not yet open despite the government giving many relaxations from the lockdown. This is affecting the MPSC aspirants as they can't focus on their studies at their hostels or rented flats.

Nitin Bhitade, an MPSC aspirant from Beed, came to Pune city a year before to prepare for competitive exams. Bhitade said, "It is not possible to study in the rented room for the whole day, and that's why I prefer a study room. Many other students in the study rooms help out each other. We share books and notes. If I have any doubts, I ask my friends or study room partners who have answers ready with them. Many seniors guide us too. We will follow social distancing, but allow the reopening of study rooms."

Competitive examination aspirants can't focus on their studies while they are at their native place or in rented hostel rooms. Hence they prefer studying in the study rooms. Now, MPSC has declared the timetable for preliminary examinations to be conducted in September, October and November.

"Students are preparing for this exam for the last two years. Now they have only a couple of months left for studying and hence study rooms must be reopened for them. If study rooms are reopened, appropriate precautions can be taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Study room owners and managers will follow all guidelines issued by the government and also the social distancing norms. We will soon write to the Chief Minister and Municipal Commissioner to consider our demands."
