Pune: Regional Transport Authority issues rate card for ambulances

Pune: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) announced that it has fixed the rates for ambulance services in the city area. As per the rate card of RTA, citizens will have to pay a charge of Rs 500 to Rs 900 for a single trip of 25 kilometres or 2 hours’ period only depending on the type of vehicle used as an ambulance. If any service provider charges an extra amount than these rates, then action will be taken against him under the Epidemic Management Act, RTO officials have warned.

RTA has issued this rate card after many citizens complained that the ambulance service providers are charging exorbitant and taking undue advantage of the crisis situation of COVID-19 outbreak in the city.

RTO officials have made it mandatory for ambulance service providers to install GPS systems inside their vehicles. They will also have to display the rate card inside the ambulance which will be clearly visible to the citizens using its services. These rates are applicable for ambulances of all hospitals. Any ambulance registered with the RTO and plying in the jurisdiction of Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad city and rural district areas will have to abide by these rules.

Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Regional Transport Officer said, “Ambulance needs to be sanitised after every trip. Citizens should not give any extra amount to the driver. The return charges of the vehicle are taken into consideration while fixing the charges for ambulances. So citizens should give only the fixed charges as decided by the Regional Transport Authority.”
