Pune records more recoveries than new COVID-19 cases

Pune: With as many as 3,894 patients being discharged on Sunday, the number of recoveries outweighed the surge in cases in Pune district. The total recoveries in the district now stand at 2,28,476.

The Pune district which is epicentre of the novel coronavirus reported 3,313 new cases on Sunday taking the total caseload to 2,76,325. While 80 people lost their lives amid the novel COVID-19 which now takes the death tally to 6,300.

Of the total cases found on Sunday, Pune city (Pune Municipal Corporation) witnessed 1,548 new cases followed by Pimpri Chinchwad (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) with 812 while Zilla Parishad saw 660 new cases. 85 new cases were reported from Cantonment Board on Sunday. Of the 1,548 cases in Pune city, some 940 patients continue to be critical, while 520 are on ventilators in intensive care units (ICU) and 420 are without ventilators. Of the total 80 deaths on Sunday, 41 fatalities were reported from the Pune city while 17 deaths were reported from Pimpri-Chinchwad. 22 deaths were recorded in rural parts of Pune.

The number of rising cases is a big worry. Pune has so far observed four phases of lockdown.
