Pune records 3rd hottest February since 2010: IMD

PUNE:  With temperature running high in the city, this month is set to be the third hottest February since 2010. The lowest minimum temperature this year was on February 7 at 10.1 degrees Celsius. Night temperatures for 2017 and 2010 were hotter than this year. As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the lowest minimum temperature so far for February was at 3.9 degrees Celsius on February 1, 1934.

Anupam Kashyapi, Head of Weather at IMD Pune, said that summer season starts from March. “However, various parts of the State including Pune have started to feel warmer winds. The northern component of the wind was unable to penetrate towards the southern part due to cyclonic circulation over Maharashtra. The trough in easterlies were also developed, which brought moisture from the Bay of Bengal,” he said. On Monday as well, Pune reported 16 degrees Celsius during the night, which was 3.4 degrees more than normal. The day temperature was 34.9 degree Celsius, which was 2.6 degrees Celsius above normal.

The highest maximum temperature reported across the state was at 37 degrees Celsius in Malegaon which was 4.1 degrees more than normal. The lowest minimum temperature reported was at 14.4 degrees Celsius in Nashik.
