Pune rain: Respite from heat as thunderstorm, gusty winds lash city

Pune: A trough line formed between Marathwada to South Karnataka brought rains to various parts of Maharashtra along with thundering, lightning and gusty winds.

Pune received 2.5 mm rainfall with winds and thundering activity on Thursday evening in the various parts of the city including Shivajinagar, Baner, Bavdhan, Sinhagad Road, Warje, Wanawadi, Aundh, Pashan and more.

The maximum temperature in the city on Thursday was 39.7 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature was 22.6 degrees Celsius. 

Lohegaon recorded the maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.

The weather forecast for the city quoted by IMD stated, skies with very light rain, thundery activity, lightning and winds on 15th May, with the temperature at 40 degrees Celsius.

According to reports, two days (16th May and 17th May) city will observe partly cloudy sky post noon, followed by a thunderstorm with the maximum temperature flying around the 39 to 40 degree Celsius.

The IMD has predicted rain and thunderstorms in regions of Pune, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Thane, Beed, Jalna, Nanded, Thane, Dhule and more.

ONSET OF MONSOON OVER KERALA LIKELY TO BE DELAYED

The onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala this year is likely to be delayed by four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

The monsoon is expected to hit the southern state by 5th June, four days after its normal onset date.

"This year, the onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala is likely to be slightly delayed as compared to the normal date of onset. The monsoon onset over Kerala this year is likely to be on 5th June with a model error of plus or minus four days," the IMD said. The onset of monsoon over Kerala marks the official commencement of the four-month rainfall season in the country.
