Pune railway division holds awareness drive

Pune: The Pune railway division conducted a level-crossing awareness drive on Tuesday. The safety awareness campaign was launched on unmanned gates and manually operated gates.

The safety team visited the unmanned gates and manually operated gates and guided the people living nearby to be careful about accidents occurring while passing the gate. The team distributed posters, banners, pamphlets and calendars to people residing nearby.

A safety seminar based on the significance of International Level Crossing Day was also conducted in this regard. Chief Engineer of Central Railway SPS Gupta, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Pune Division, Praful Chandra and Senior Divisional Protection Officer, RV Nagarale were also present. They provided detailed guidance on various facets related to safety. A large number of officers and employees were present on this occasion.
According to railway officials, as many as 350 people died while trying to cross railway tracks in the Pune Railway Division between January and December 2016. Although the railway officials have carried out several campaigns and awareness drives to make sure that those staying in the vicinity of the railway tracks use foot-overbridges (FoB) to cross the tracks instead of risking their lives, people are often seen not
following the rules.
