Pune railway division creates 46,000 handmade masks amid COVID-19 lockdown

Pune: The Pune railway division has created 46,000 handmade masks for employees, labourers and other staff members. After the coronavirus lockdown was announced on March 25, the family members of the division started making these masks.

Good move 
“The railway employees and their family members came forward to make masks at home. The family members voluntarily came forward to make those masks, neither they were forced, nor it was mandatory for them to make it. But they have joined hands in this war against COVID-19,” said Pune railway division Public Relation Officer (PRO) Manoj Jhawar.

Social responsibility 
According to him, the employees of the operating department and their family made 17,500 masks, while Railway Protection Force (RPF) has made 15,500 masks, electric department 9,000 and the commercial department has made more than 4,000 masks at home. Also, individually employees have made 500 masks. The linen is being supplied as raw material by the railways to make the masks. Along with the daily work of the office, they made masks as social responsibility.

Creative power
The initiative was taken by a railway guard Vishal Kalage working in Miraj. He was the one who started making masks for residents near his home and later started distributing to his staff and the employees of the railway in Miraj station. This was noticed by the Central Railway after which they ordered all divisions to make masks at home.  

Acknowledged
“All these masks were distributed to the officers, employees, and their family members of Pune division to protect them from COVID-19. Divisional Railway Manager Renu Sharma, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Saharsh Bajpai and Neelam Chandra have appreciated all officers and employees for social work,” said Jhawar.

Contribution from a social worker
A social worker, had come forward and made more than 500 face shields for the railway and distributed it free of cost since most of the railway employees are working at the forefront come in direct contact with people. A philanthropist and head of Amit Warehousing Pune, Sunil Bihani has provided a specially created face shield to Senior Material Manager of Pune Railway division Vinod Meena. Sunil Bihani has also given 1,000 plastic sheets additionally so that employees can change the face shield, wash and use it multiple times. Vinod Meena has appreciated the social work of Sunil Bihani and to support the railways.
