Pune: Punawale flat owner woman flees to Dubai despite testing positive for COVID-19

Pune: A Dubai-based woman who had come to Punawale for completing the flat registration formalities and tested positive for COVID-19 a few days back has managed to escape to Sharjah a few days back.

This incident came to light when the society residents - all under home quarantine - received a message from the woman upon reaching her destination. Society members were surprised over this and have raised several pertinent questions regarding the safety measures in place in the city and at the airport too.

The woman had purchased flat number in Vision Indra Megh society in Punawale. She had arrived at Punawale from Dubai to complete the registration formalities. But soon after she landed, the city had entered lockdown. During her stay, she developed some symptoms of COVID-19 and decided to undergo the test. Her test report received from Aditya Birla hospital on July 11, came positive. After this report, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was informed on July 12.

The doctors at the hospital asked the woman to stay at home in isolation as she had mild symptoms of the disease. The society members helped her by providing essential items during her isolation period. According to PCMC norms, the 152-flats society was declared as a containment zone and its members were asked to remain in home quarantine.

The woman stepped out of her home on July 17 and told the security guard at the gate that she has to visit a medical store and will return immediately. Around 4pm, she texted the society members that she has reached Sharjah as her Covid-19 test report has come negative. After this revelation, society chairman approached Hinjawadi police and PCMC officials to lodge a complaint against the woman.

Ashish Biradar, Chairman of Vision Indra Megh Society in Punawale said, "The concerned woman has cheated everyone and fled to Dubai. How can she get a flight ticket when she had tested positive for Covid-19. While going out of the society, the woman has entered incorrect information in the register kept at the gate. We are baffled about how she managed to get a COVID-19 negative report and flee outside the country."
