Pune Police Seize 3 More Elephant Tusks

Sleuths from Crime Branch Unit 2 of Pune city police, who had earlier seized four elephant tusks from an accused hailing from Telangana, have recovered three more tusks and three teeth of an unidentified animal. 

Pune: Sleuths from Crime Branch Unit 2 of Pune city police, who had earlier seized four elephant tusks from an accused hailing from Telangana, have recovered three more tusks and three teeth of an unidentified animal. 

Acting on a tip-off received by policemen Yashwant Khandare and Mohsin Shaikh, on September 28, a team had arrested Bhima Bogriya Mudawat alias Chavan (50) of Anand Nagar, Hadapsar, who hails from Telangana. 

After receiving confirmation from the Forest Department officials that the seized objects were ivory, an FIR was registered with the Swargate police station against Mudawat. 

During further investigation under the supervision of DCP (Crime) Bachchan Singh and ACP Shivaji Pawar, a team led by API Jaywant Jadhav recovered three more tusks and three teeth of an unidentified animal. The accused is currently lodged in Yerwada Central Jail and the police are probing the case.
