Pune: Police recover Rs 48 lakh from vehicle owners for violating lockdown

Pune: A total of 36,318 vehicles have been returned to the respective owners after completing the legal process by the Pune police for violating the lockdown rules. However, a fine worth Rs 48.7 lakh has been recovered from them.

A curfew was imposed in Pune in March amid the lockdown. Police seized the vehicles of the drivers ventured unnecessarily and violated the lockdown rules. A total of 36,870 vehicles were confiscated by the police with clear notices were summoned to them.

These vehicles were kept at the premises of the police station. Meanwhile, the owners had demanded the return of the vehicles after the Central and State Governments relaxed the restrictions. Accordingly, the police went through the legal process and started returning the vehicles. So far 36,318 vehicles have been returned. A fine of Rs 48 lakh has been recovered from them, police said.

Most of the vehicles seized in the lockdown have been returned to their original owners. So far, 500 are still parked here. The police have appealed to the owners of the vehicles to pay the fine and take back the vehicles after completing the necessary legal process.
