Pune: Police to file complaints against social media posts linking honour killing case

Pimpri: In an honour killing cases in that shocked Pune, a 20-year-old youth was murdered at the hands of 6 men which led to his death. Viraj Vilas Jagtap was riding his bike when the relatives of his girlfriend attacked him with rods and thrashed him with big stones.

Now, the photographs of the girl are going viral on social media. Thus, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have started filing a case against such people.

The girl’s photographs made round on social media and strictures were past on her as well as some, defamed the girl along with her pictures and rumours were spread which would create issue of law and order in area.

To avoid any chaos and tension the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police commissionerate immediately took cognisance of the issue and now have asked people not to spread any rumours or portrayed it to caste issue.

In the meantime, the Wakad police has filed a case against the person who uploaded her photographs on social media. A case of molestation, defamation has been filed under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code as well as under The Information Technology, Act.

Pimpri-Chinchwad commissionerate Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone II) Vinayak Dhakane talking to Sakal Times, said, "We appeal to citizens not to fall prey to such rumours. It's an appeal not to upload picture or videos which can aroused tension in cities in this COVID-19 pandemic situation as well as we are also keeping a tap on social media if anyone is presenting such rumours, acting insensible spreading wrong things, fake news as well as defaming will be held and strict action will be taken against them."
