Pune: Police constable commits suicide

Pune: In a shocking incident, a policeman attached to Pune city commissionerate committed suicide at his residence on Sunday morning.

The deceased police constable has been identified as Sanjay Bansode (35), a resident of Somwar Peth police line. The incident took place on Sunday morning at his residence. He hanged himself at his residence.

Sanjay was Police Naik, deployed in service with Pune city police and was attached to Vishrambaug police station. A report of suicide has been registered at Khadak police station and a probe is going on.

According to the police, “It is shocking for us that on Saturday after his duty, he went back home and on Sunday he did not turn up so we called him. He did not answer the call which prompted his colleagues to alert his family members. They tried to open the door and he did not respond. They forcefully broke the door of his bedroom and found him strangulated.”

He added, “For last one and half month he was on leave and resumed his duty 15 days back. He was addicted to liquor and had left his drinking habit as there were some family disputes due to which he was disturbed. We are probing the reason for his such step. But due to this incident, not only family but also his colleagues in the department are shocked and disturbed.”

Speaking to Sakal Times His colleagues said, “Bansode was the best gem of a person on Saturday we worked together and also cleaned the area where we deployed. He had helped many coronavirus pandemics patients and also assisted a few needy people by giving grocery.  We had planned today to have breakfast and lunch together but this news came.”
