Pune: Chatuhshrungi police have arrested two criminals-on-police-records from Chikhali area who wore masks and raincoats to hide their identity while committing several thefts at shops located in Chatuhshrungi, Yerawada and Koregaon Park area.
The suspects have been identified as Vikas Dilip Kamble (28), a resident of Pimpri and Sarfraj Ravantaj Shekhara, a resident of Kasarwadi. They both are criminals-on-police-record. Kamble was externed by Pimpri police in September 2019 for one year and has two cases registered against him at Kothrud police station while Shekhara is an absconding suspect in an arms act case registered at Pimpri police station.
In the second week of June, nine shops at Parihar chowk in Aundh and Baner road were targeted by suspects. Similar break-ins were reported from various parts of the city after which a special team under PSI Jadhav was formed to detect these cases having similar modus operandi.
The suspects were using a pulsar bike and used to wear gloves, mask, cap and raincoat to hide their identity. With the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the movement of these suspects was not seen as objectionable as health advisories have asked citizens to wear masks and gloves while going out in public places.
Police Sub-Inspector Mohan Jadhav of Chatuhshrungi police station received a tip-off that the two suspects are coming near Gharkul Vasahat in Chikhali on July 7. Meanwhile, police personnel Prakash Avhad and Tejas Chopde had analysed the CCTV camera footage at various locations. Along with them, a team of Senior Police Inspector Anil Shewale, Inspector (Crime) Maya Deore, police personnel Eknath Joshi, Maruti Pardhi, Santosh Jadhav, Dnyaneshwar Muley, Saras Salvi, Pramod Shinde, Ashish Nimse, Wasim Siddiqui, Shyam Shinde, Rohini Pandharkar laid a trap in the area and nabbed the suspects.
Primary interrogation of the suspects after they were nabbed has revealed that they have committed five offences in Chatuhshrungi area and one each in Yerawada, Koregaon Park and Pimpri police station.
