Pune: PMPML to ply on new routes; new squad to keep strict eye on violators

There is a surge of people travelling in Pune city especially those working in the emergency services. Keeping same in the mind, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has now decided to ply buses on 18 new routes and two additional buses will ply on each route. The decision comes after an increase in the number of people using the city bus for work purpose.

"We have also prepared some alternate plans for depots to restart service for the public, whenever we get approval from the top officials. We will not ply the buses in containment zones.  Currently, buses are plying in PCMC limit," Waghmare informed.

PMPML'S SPECIAL SQUAD

PMPML states that some people are violating the rules and are using public uses. In order to keep an eye over such violators, PMPML has introduced a new squad.

“We are running 150 buses in Pune city only for those working in essential services. But, some people who are not working in any emergency sector are not following the rules and are trying to enter the buses. Thus, PMPML has decided to launch special squads of checkers on many routes," said Waghmare.

“People above the age of 65 and children below age 10 are not permitted to use the PMPML buses. All instructions and guidelines are already given. Use of face mask is mandatory and the person should show their identity cards to the conductor in the bus. Also, social distancing should be followed on the bus. Still, some people fail to follow it. If needed checking squads will be increased as per the requirement but we cannot risk the lives of passengers while travelling by the city bus,” he concluded.

150 buses are running daily on 50 different routes currently in Pune city. Meanwhile, PMPML bus service has been resumed in Pimpri Chinchwad area. 100 buses are plying on 30 different routes.
