Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO to function from Monday

Pune: The waiting period for the registration of vehicles, renewal of licence and other work is going to end as the state government has given a reason to smile to the vehicle owners and dealers. The state has allowed starting registration of new vehicles and applying for new licences too. The Regional Transport Offices (RTO) of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and other offices in the district will start working from today.

All the RTOs’ in the state were closed since March 25 after the announcement of the lockdown. As the state government has extended the lockdown period for May 31, Chief Secretary Ajay Mehta has issued an order on May 17 directing the concerned offices to start functioning of RTO from Monday.

Pune Regional Transport Officer Ajit Shinde said that Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and offices in the district will be opened from Monday.

“New vehicle registration (excluding containment zone) will be starting from today. For other work like new license, renewal, transfer of ownership of old vehicles etc. planning is being done and will be declared accordingly. The registration number allotment for BS-IV vehicles is already completed before April 30, but the number of allotment for BS-VI vehicles purchased before lockdown will be completed within next week,” said Shinde

“Further processing of High-Security Number Plates for that vehicle can be processed by dealer level. The purchased vehicles can be used on the road after fitment of number plates. The postal dispatch of Registration Certificates will be done after consultation with the Post Office,” he said.

There are around 65 lakh registered vehicles in the district. RTO is one of the major revenue-generating departments in the state.
