Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad likely to go under strict lockdown for 15 days

Pune: Acting on Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s instructions, the Pune district administration has announced that a strict and complete lockdown for 15 days will be implemented in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad city areas starting from Monday (July 13).

Areas in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad an epicentre of the contagion are witnessing a continuous surge in the cases of the novel coronavirus. From past week, over 1,000 cases are reported daily in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently directed the Pune district and city administrations to assign an IAS officer as Testing In- charge. He held a meeting and reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the district where the case count has passed over 34,000.

Pawar also asked the officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation to implement stringent actions to prevent the spread of the contagion in containment zones as well as take stern actions against those who are not wearing masks in the public area or flouting the rules of social distancing.

Meanwhile, Pune Police has already intensified the patrolling and are taking a strict against those who are violating the norms of lockdown.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Pune district reported 1,574 COVID-19 cases with over 33 deaths. Now, total cases in Pune district now stands at 34,170 and death tally over 977. On the positive front, 753 patients were recovered on Thursday.

In the wake of increasing coronavirus positive cases, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) earlier had announced that people in the area will have to follow 'Janta Curfew' on every Thursday and Sunday starting from July 9.
