Pune: PCMC to hold its first online General Assembly meeting on Monday

Pimpri: The General Assembly of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be held online for the first time on Monday, due to the outbreak of coronavirus and considering the PCMC building becoming a hotspot of the outbreak. The officials, group leaders and the corporators will be meeting online and the House will participate in the meeting from their respective homes.

Some municipal general meetings and subject committee meetings have not been held since March against the backdrop of coronavirus and other issues have been kept pending for prolong time.

According to the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, if the general meeting is not held within three months, the post of the corporator will be cancelled. Therefore, March and April meetings of PCMC were adjourned and held at the beginning of June. However, in June the general meeting did not take place.

Considering the prevalence of coronavirus infection, subject committees, general meetings should be held regularly by Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats in the state. For this, video conferencing medium should be adopted, the state's urban development department has given clear orders.

Therefore, the general meeting of Pimpri Municipality for the month of July will be held online on Monday. The mayor, commissioner, municipal secretary, office bearers and group leaders will attend the meeting from their homes while the rest of the councillors will attend the meeting from their homes through Google Meet.

Regarding this, Municipal Secretary Ulhas Jagtap admitted and said, "As per the order of the Maharashtra state government, an online meeting will be held on Monday. Corporators are given a link to Google Meet. The link will be activated ten minutes before the meeting starts. This is the first attempt. So there should be no technical difficulties. We will continue our efforts for this."
