Pune: A patient admitted in a non-COVID hospital located on Karve road was asked to leave the facility after he tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday (July 28) morning. The patient succumbed to the disease a few hours later as his family tried to find a vacant hospital bed in and around Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities.
The deceased patient Dattatray Bhiku Dhore is from Wadgaon Maval area. He was admitted to Galaxy hospital on Karve road. The family and relatives of the patient have alleged that hospital management is responsible for the patient’s death.
According to the relatives, Dattatraya was admitted at the Galaxy hospital on Saturday (July 25). While he was under treatment, Dattatraya’s swab sample was collected on Monday (July 27) night. The report of his test was received on Tuesday morning which mentioned that he has tested positive for Covid-19 disease.
The hospital staff asked Dhore to leave the hospital as there were no treatment facilities available for COVID-19 positive patients. While the hospital shifted him out, the Dhore family was told that a hospital bed has been arranged at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) hospital for Dattatraya. The Galaxy hospital staff asked them to leave, but when they reached YCM hospital the family was shocked to know that no such hospital bed was vacant for Dattatraya.
Dattatraya was kept in an ambulance for the whole day, while his family members and relatives searched for a vacant hospital bed in several hospitals in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities. The family could not find any hospital bed at these locations. In the evening Dattatray was taken to a private hospital at Talegaon, but meanwhile, he had succumbed to the disease.
Dhore's family has blamed the staff of Galaxy hospital for Dattatraya’s death as he could not be provided proper treatment due to unavailability of hospital beds at a short notice.
