Pune: Online survey for dedicated bicycle tracks launched by Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation

Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched an online survey for creating dedicated cycle tracks in the city. PCMC has also asked citizens to participate in the survey by downloading the Smart Sarathi mobile application. Citizens can also give a missed call on 8080049900 to install the app on their mobile.

The PCMC posted on its Twitter account on Sunday (August 16) afternoon about the online survey. The post has Mayor Usha Mai Dhore and PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar appealing to citizens to participate in the online survey.
PCMC in their post says, "Pimpri-Chinchwad will soon become a city of bicycles. Let's increase the use of bicycles for protecting the environment." The post further mentions that the civic body is conducting an online survey for creating the cycle tracks in the city."

"Download the PCMC Smart Sarathi mobile app and fill-up the form under #Cycles4Change survey section. To download the app give a missed call on 8080049900," the post states.

Bicycle tracks are missing in most areas of the Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Therefore, PCMC in its master plan for the non-motorised transport for the city has proposed a network of cycle tracks. Tracks were built on the big roads but they are not being used. Providing cycle tracks is a must on BRTS roads but they are not constructed even after getting funds for the purpose from the central government.

PCMC also plans to implement a bicycle-sharing scheme in the city on the lines of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The number of two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles is increasing in Pimpri-Chinchwad. PCMC authorities are of the view that the introduction of the bicycle scheme in the city will curb the increasing number of private vehicles. A bicycle can be used for travelling a short distance in the city. Pedestrian routes, footpaths and parking will also be considered in the master plan for non-motorised transport. Also, steps will be taken to increase the use of public transport.
