Pune: Nigdi police arrests duo on charges of robbing Rs 4.30 lakh from 76-year-old elderly woman

Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad police have arrested two men on charges of robbing of Rs 4.30 lakh of an elderly woman two months back in Nigdi Pradhikaran. One of the suspects was working at the victim's house as a caretaker and had committed the crime with the help of his accomplice.

Police have identified the suspects as Deepak alias Dipya Ankush Sugave (20), presently residing at Kalpana society in Talegaon Dabhade and originally from Suga village of Deglur taluka in Nanded district and Sandeep alias Guru Bhagwan Hande (24), Deshmukhwada in Chinchwad Gaon and originally from Tembapuri in Waluj village of Gangapur taluka in Aurangabad district.

The elderly woman, Hemlata Malgouda Patil (76), residing at the Gayatri Heritage society in Sector Number 24 of Nigdi Pradhikaran had filed a complaint in this regard at Nigdi police station. According to information provided by police, Hemlata is a widow and has one married daughter. Hemlata stays alone at her home.

As per the complaint filed by Hemlata, on August 10, she was watching television at around 10.30 pm at her house. Two unidentified men had entered the home. Hemlata tried to stop the suspects but they had beaten her with a ruler. Hemlata was allegedly overpowered by the suspects, and thus she could not resist them. The suspects had robbed off gold and silver ornaments kept at home, wristwatches, camera, mobile and cash amount - all worth Rs 4.30 lakh. Later the suspects tied Hemlata's hands and face with a towel, locked her into the bathroom and fled from the spot.

A case was filed at the Nigdi police station in this regard on August 11. Police had formed three teams to nab these suspects. One team was doing technical analysis of phone call records in the area, the second one was verifying involvement of criminals-on-police-record in this crime and the third one was finding out information about people who had been in contact with Hemlata over the past six months. It was revealed that one Deepak Sugave was working as a caretaker at Hemlata's house two months back. Police gathered information about him and nabbed him along with his accomplice.
