PUNE: Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to use their man-power meticulously. It has come up with a schedule to be followed by the citizens to make right use of these less employees at the recycling and garbage treatment plants.
It has issued an advisory for the citizens to segregate the dry waste and categorise it. As per the schedule, citizens have to hand over this dry waste to PMC.
The wet waste and sanitary napkins and diapers will be picked up by the PMC vehicles everyday. However, the dry waste will be picked up according to the schedule.
The rest of the dry waste will be segregated as follows:
Monday | Plastic |
Tuesday | E-waste |
Wednesday | Medical waste |
Thursday | Glass, Tin sheets and other |
Friday | Household waste and clothes |
Saturday | Clothes, Mattresses |
“In view of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) threat, many of our employees have left Pune to go back to their villages, and thus we are working with a much lesser number of employees. Segregation of garbage like stated above will help reduce pressure of recycling and treating the garbage on our employees,” PMC Solid Waste Department Head Dnyaneshwar Molak said.
Everyday, 2,100 metric tonnes of garbage is created in Pune city, out of which 250 metric tonnes of garbage is recycled. The rest is treated by the PMC for disposal.
