Pune: Hadapsar police have registered another case of extortion and land grabbing attempt against RTI activist Ravindra Barhate, dismissed cops Shailesh Jagtap, Parvez Jamadar, journalist Devendra Jain and their eight other accomplices. While, another case was registered at Khadak police station against Jagtap and his two other accomplices related to a land parcel in Undri.

Kothrud police had recently appealed to citizens to come forward and register their complaints with police against the suspects who have been arrested in several cases of extortion and intimidating builders. Pune police is also thinking about invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against all the suspects for their involvement in several crimes in furtherance of a common intention for pecuniary gains.

In the recent Hadapsar case, Kailas Shivaji Shirsat (30), a resident of Kalepadal in Hadapsar has lodged the complaint. Police Inspector Ramesh Sathe said, "According to Shirsat, one of the suspects Prakash Phale had lured Shirsat into an investment pertaining to a land deal in Kothrud and Aundh. Phale had taken Rs 10 lakh from Shirsat and Rs 20 lakh from Shirsat's brother-in-law Vilas Nevge for the said deal. Later, when Shirsat demanded his money back, Jagtap had threatened him with a revolver and other accomplices too warned him of dire consequences if he pursues the matter."

In the Khadak case, Satyabhama Popat Chandgude (40) a resident of Chikhali has lodged the complaint. According to the FIR, Jagtap and his accomplices had taken Rs 20 lakh from the complainant in connection with a deal of land parcel in Undri. When the possession of the land plot was denied, the complainant demanded her money back. At that point, Jagtap threatened her of implicating in a false criminal case. When the complainant came to know about two complaints lodged against Jagtap in the recent past, she decided to come forward and register her complaint too.

Earlier, two builders Sudhir Karnataki and Rishikesh Bartakke had lodged separate cases against the suspects at Kothrud and Samarth police station. Barhate is still absconding and his anticipatory bail has been rejected by a District and Session Court in Pune.
