Pune: Monsoon picnic spots closed for tourists, vehicles

Pune: Monsoon will arrive in the next few days in Maharashtra. Monsoon, one of the favourite season where people step out to enjoy the rains will need to stay inside and enjoy the rains. In order to curtail the spread of coronavirus, monsoon spots will be closed for people. People will not be allowed to visit many spots such as Khadakwasla, Bhushi Dam, Mulshi Dam as well as many forts in the Pune, Mumbai region.

According to the weather department, heavy rainfall is expected in the coming days. To avoid any flood situation as well as to stop the spread of COVID-19 such decision has been taken by the Pune District Collector who is Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority.

The Pune District Collector has banned citizens from popular picnic spots like Bhushi Dam, Mulshi Dam, Lonavala, Tamhini Ghat, Khadakwasla, Bhimashankar, Malshej Ghat, Bhatghar Dam, Panshet dam as well as the green agricultural belt like Junnar, Velha, Bhor and many forts.

Every year, these monsoon destinations are jam-packed, especially on the weekend. Already many incidents of people losing their lives at these spots have been reported.

The Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram said, "Such decision has been taken considering the current of the COVID-19 as well as to take adequate measures in monsoon to avoid the flood-like situation. The authority is working round the clock and is on toes in this situation.”

“They are already working in manpower crises and our priorities are pandemic to be curb and avoid any death due to flood or drowning. The order is served under the bylaws laid down under the Disaster Management Act and also one who violate the norms will be penalised under the relevant section of Indian Penal code for disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servants. "

“It's an appeal to citizen avoid visiting such places as well as not to step out of the house for unnecessary things. Those who want to travel for emergency and work purposes will be allowed to travel but not for a picnic or petty reason to see the nature in this monsoon as well as avoid taking selfies at such point,” he concluded.
