Pune: MNS Corporator damages PMC official's car to protest inaccessibility of ambulances

Pune: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Corporator Vasant More damaged the car of an official of Pune Municipal Corporation after an ambulance allegedly couldn't be made available to take the body of one of his relatives who was infected with the novel coronavirus, from the hospital.

The incident took place on Monday. The MNS Corporator from Katraj area stated that if people in the city are not getting ambulance then how officers from the administration have the right to travel from the vehicles.

"One of my relative, who was infected with the virus, didn't get an ambulance for more than three hours even after his demise. They are permitting funerals only at electric facilities. If people in the city are not getting ambulance then officers don't have the right to travel in vehicles," More expressed.

While the number of COVID-19 is rising in Pune city, there is a shortage of ambulances. There is also inaccessibility of vehicles to carry the dead body of the infected person to the cremation ground. The last rites of coronavirus fatality are only performed at certain cemeteries in the city and amid the non-availability of the ambulance, the funerals are delayed.

Television journalist Pandurang Raykar (42) succumbed to the contagion on Wednesday (September 2) as he could not avail treatment due to unavailability of cardiac ambulance and ventilator in the newly set up jumbo hospital facility at the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) ground in the city.
