Pune: Married woman assaulted, forced to eat pork

Pune: A 20-year-old married woman has approached police claiming that she has been allegedly forced to eat pork by her husband and in-laws, failing to which she has been threatened to killed by them and also molested by her brother-in-law.

The incident came to light after the victim was fed up with the constant mental and physical torture and lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with Dehuroad police station which falls under the jurisdiction of Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate. In this regard, the police have registered the case against her husband (22) and in-laws under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the Dehuroad police station report, "The incident has taken place between June 11, 2020, till Saturday, at Gandhi Nagar in Dehuroad. The victim has been harassed and tortured by her husband, son-in-law and in-laws. She was forced to eat pork and if she refused or opposed, she was repeatedly abused, beaten and tortured. She further claimed in her complaint that she has been tortured and taunted by her in-laws as her parents did not give any gifts or money during the wedding. As well as she was demanded sexual favours from her brother-in-law and often molested and manhandled by them."

Police added, "Finally on Friday the victim approached us after being beaten up by her husband with a leather belt and she was forcefully thrown out of the house and asked to get a car from her parents and then return home. We have taken cognizance of her complaint and we are investigating the case."
