Pune: Lonavala police take strict action against lockdown violators

Lonavala: Despite the prohibitory orders issued by the Pune District administration and Maharashtra police for not visiting tourist spots on the backdrop of coronavirus pandemic spread many were seen venturing here. The Pune rural police on Sunday took action against 38 tourists.

Many people especially from Pune, Mumbai travel Lonavala to witness the scenic beauty but this year, amid the coronavirus outbreak, a number of tourist spots are closed. Still, people are violating the rules and visiting such spots.

Lonavala which is known as monsoon spot witness heavy rains during the period of July and August. After orders of the government, Lonavala police have set up check-posts at the dams and other spots in order to stop tourists to visit.

 The action was initiated by Lonavala City police station which falls under the jurisdiction of Pune rural commissionerate. The police have deployed check posts and units at various such tourist spots in Lonavala and Khandala including forts, dams, roads and others.

On Sunday, many who travelled to Lonavala from Mumbai were sent back by the Highway police. Also, the Pune rural police team zeroed down as man as 15 tourists who had travel for sightseeing. While actions have also been taken against 23 people who were caught travelling without masks.
