Pune lockdown: E-commerce, vegetable shops to open tomorrow in second phase of shutdown

The second phase of lockdown in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will begin on Sunday with E-commerce, vegetable shops to open

Pune: Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad are under complete lockdown after the administration decided to impose a strict shutdown amid the rising cases of the novel coronavirus. The administration has declared lockdown from July 14 to July 23.

The lockdown in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad has been classified into two phases. Phase 1 started on July 14 and will end on July 18 (midnight). The Phase 2 will begin from July 19 and will run till July 23. In Phase 1 only dairies, medical shops and hospitals were allowed to operate while Phase 2 may witness some relaxations on the lockdown.

The sale of groceries, vegetables, fruits, meat will be allowed from Sunday as the administration has also fixed time of 8 am to 12 noon for operating these shops.

In an order issued by Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kumar on July 12, the lockdown was strict for the first five days where only milk supply, newspaper distribution was allowed to remain open.

The first phase of the lockdown will end at midnight on Saturday. The second phase will begin from Sunday (July 19). As per the order issued by Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, wholesale and retail shops supplying essential items (groceries) as well as Aadte vegetable market, fruit market, will be open from 8 am to 12 noon from Sunday to July 23 which also includes e-commerce. Therefore, online delivery from Amazon and Flipkart will be permitted.

However, restaurants, liquor shops, salons, theatres, malls and more will remain shut. Also, there will be a restricted movement in the city, as police will continue to take strict action against the lockdown violators. Auto-rickshaws, cabs can ply only for a medical emergency. It is mandatory for the driver of auto-rickshaw and cab to apply for a digital pass.

Talking about public transport, the PMPML buses will run only for those working in the essential service sector. The PMPML has allotted 10 special buses from Pune Railway Station and airport for the passengers.
