Pune: Land acquisition model for International Airport at Purandar to be finalised by Friday

Pune: Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao has informed that a meeting will be held on Friday (August 28) in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to decide on land acquisition and compensation for the proposed "Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport" to be set up at Purandar.

All kinds of approvals have already been given by the Central and State Governments for the proposed site for the Purandar Airport. Only land acquisition remains an important stage which has not been decided yet. If the compensation model is decided upon, the much-awaited international airport for Pune city will once again get going.

Along with Divisional Commissioner, District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh and officials from Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation (MADC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will be present for the scheduled meeting.

Earlier, Deputy CM Pawar had instructed to acquire the land required for Purandar Airport and to appoint good officers for completing the land acquisition process at the earliest. Accordingly, four Deputy Collector level officers have also been appointed by the district administration. However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, this work was hampered.

Rao said, "The district administration has already suggested four options for land acquisition for the airport. A proposal for these four options has already been sent to the state government. It will be discussed at a meeting on Friday. If necessary, it will have to go to the state government's high-powered committee for approval."

About 2,832 hectares of land will be required to build an airport at Purandar. The airport development company has been given special powers for this purpose. The airport will actually be built on 2,000 hectares out of 2,832 hectares.

The land acquisition is expected to cost Rs 6,000 crore. The work of preparing the master plan of the airport has already been given to a private company. The development plan is being prepared by the company to build the infrastructure required for the airport on the remaining 832 hectares of land.

MADC has already released boundary maps of seven villages. Suggestions and objections have been invited from the citizens.
