Pune: A 30-year-old man attempted to kill self after he attacked and murdered a 29-year-old married woman – his neighbour with whom he had a one-sided love affair - on Saturday (August 1) afternoon near Tiranga chowk at Shivtej Nagar in Chikhali.
The woman has been identified as Rani Satish Landge (29), a resident of Ajantha Nagar in Chinchwad. Her lover has been identified as Arvind Sheshrao Gade (30) who stays next to Rani in the same building. Arvind has been admitted in a private hospital in Pimpri and is in serious condition.
According to primary information received from police officials, Rani and Arvind were neighbours and had got acquainted with each other since past few months. Arvind used to chat frequently with Rani and was in love with her. Rani was friendly with him, but refused his advances and informed her husband about Arvind's conduct.
Rani’s husband had then warned Arvind to stay away from her, but he kept on calling on Rani’s mobile phone last month. Rani had to change her mobile number to avoid calls from Arvind. Angered over Rani’s snub, Arvind decided to kill her and himself.
When Rani was walking down the footpath at Tiranga chowk in Shivtej Nagar of Chikhali, Arvind approached her on a bike. Arvind attacked Rani with a knife. Rani suffered multiple assaults and was lying in a pool of blood. Arvind then attacked himself too with the knife. He was seriously injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, people gathered at the spot and rushed both of them to a private hospital. Rani had succumbed to the injuries before reaching the hospital. Arvind is undergoing treatment but his condition is serious, doctors said.
Senior Police Inspector Satish Mane along with his team visited the spot after they received the information about the incident. Chikhali police are investigating the case further.
