In a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in Pune, MLA Sanjay Jagtap had proposed to change the existing site for the airport and suggested new ones in Rise, Pise and Pandeshwar areas.

Pune: The locals from Rise and Pise villages in Purandar taluka held a special meeting last night and unanimously passed a resolution opposing the airport site to be shifted in their villages.

In a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in Pune, MLA Sanjay Jagtap had proposed to change the existing site for the airport and suggested new ones in Rise, Pise and Pandeshwar areas.

It was reported in the newspapers that MLA Sanjay Jagtap had suggested a new site for the airport, considering the horticultural area and the opposition of the locals from seven villages in the Pargaon area to the site. Later in the night, the villagers of Rise and Pise held a special meeting at the Bhairavnath temple.

All the villagers present at the meeting expressed their views that the water of Janai Shirsai Scheme has now reached the village. As a result, farmers' income has stabilised by cultivating orchards and horticultural areas. So these villages should not be acquired for the airport project. At this time, all the farmers present took a stand and unanimously decided not to give land for the airport under any circumstances.

Earlier, On Friday (August 28) no concrete decision could be taken in the meeting held in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar regarding land acquisition and compensation for the international airport planned at Purandar. MLA Sanjay Jagtap had opposed the airport site during the meeting and demanded that an alternative site should be fixed in the Purandar tehsil itself.

The Purandar International Airport has already been approved by the state government and Ministry of Defense. However, acquisition of land required for the airport, determination of compensation options for farmers and approval of such issues have been pending for the last two years. As a result, the work of the airport can't be carried out despite all the approvals.
