Pune: A Pune based couple who were allegedly fighting in the car, suffered injuries after their car plunged into 30- feet riverbed at Wakad. The couple who was miraculously escaped the accident were admitted to the nearby hospital. A Honda City car (MH 12 FU 4764) went off a bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru highway on Wednesday.

A case of accident has been reported with Hinjewadi police station which falls under the jurisdiction of Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate.

Talking to Sakal Times, Senior Inspector Yashwant Gawari in-charge of Hinjewadi police station said, “The couple has escaped magically. Rajiv is kept under Intensive Care Unit while his wife has suffered minor injuries. Rajiv has sustained multiple injuries on his head and chest. The car was Honda City bearing number MH 12 FU 4764. Injured Rajiv was driving the car. Both are out of danger. Our team went to inquire to Varsha for recording statement she is traumatic due to mishap. It seems that the couple had some heated argument in the car which led to the accident. We are probing it.”

“We were driving from Kothrud to Waka. What happened, I don’t remember. Our car broke through the cement railing and fell off the bridge. People who were at the spot took us to the hospital. My husband has suffered injuries on head and chest,” Varsha Dubey told the Hinjewadi Police.

Ravindra Bavari, police sub-inspector Hinjewadi Police Station said, “We got a call from people from the spot. When we reached the spot, nobody was in the car. When we opened the door, we obtained the mobile number from fast tag papers and we managed to contact Varsha,” said.

“Couple didn’t suffer some serious injuries due to the airbags. Barricades have been placed at the spot as of now,” he added.
