Pune: HDFC Bank Baramati branch employees arrested in bribery case

Pune: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Relationship Manager and a Rural Sales Executive working at the Baramati Branch of HDFC Bank in connection with a bribery case of two lakh rupees. The CBI teams also conducted searches at the office and residential premises of the two suspects at Baramati.

A case was registered against Nitin Nikam, who worked as Relationship Manager of HDFC Bank in the Baramati Branch based on a complaint received by the agency. In the complaint, it was alleged that the Relationship Manager had demanded a bribe of Rs 2.70 lakh from the complainant for sanctioning and disbursement of his loan of amount Rs 99 lakh from the HDFC Bank's Baramati Branch.

The bribe amount was later negotiated to Rs 2.25 lakh. The accused sent Ganesh Dhaiygude, his junior (Rural Sales Executive) to collect the bribe from the complainant. CBI laid a trap and nabbed the Rural Sales Executive while accepting the bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant. Later, the Relationship Manager was also arrested. Both the arrested accused were produced before the court at Pune.

In this regard, HDFC has issued a statement saying, "As a responsible corporate, we have zero-tolerance toward any such deviations or acts by employees. Appropriate staff action will be initiated and we will support and co-operate with the authorities in their investigation."
