Pune: Four grannies recover from COVID-19; early detection and in-time treatment is the key

Pune: Four elderly women from different regions of Pune districts have shown that if Covid-19 is detected early and treatment provided on time, one can easily recover from this ‘deadly’ disease. A 90-year-old and three other 80-year-old women from Pune district were discharged from the Balewadi Wipro COVID Hospital on Tuesday (August 4) night. 

The Pune Zilla Parishad has started a dedicated COVID hospital at Balewadi. The hospital was started on July 14 and is known as Balewadi Wipro hospital. On its first day itself, five patients were admitted to the hospital. On July 25 four elderly women were admitted after they tested positive for Covid-19 disease. They received good treatment at this government-run hospital and have now recovered from Covid-19. One of the women is from Dapodi area of Pune city, one is from Utrouli village in Bhor taluka and two are Wanjale village in Velhe taluka.

“One of the four women is 90-year-old while the other three are 80-year-old. They were discharged from the hospital after they recovered well within ten days,” said Dr Balaji Lakade, Deputy Superintendent of the hospital.

Meanwhile, Pune district has reported a significant drop in the new cases of Covid-19 reported daily. There are only 26122 active cases in the district as of 26122 on Tuesday (August 4) night. The total number of patients discharged in the district since March are now 66640.

In the last six days, about 14190 Covid-19 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in the district. There has been a drop of 7017 new patients in this period.
