Pune: Four arrested for murdering 12-year-old boy who demanded extortion money

Pune: Kondhwa police have arrested four youths on charges of murdering a 12-year-old boy from Kondhwa who allegedly demanded extortion money from a paan stall owner. The suspects were nabbed after police received a tip-off about the bike used in the offence which had an unique sticker pasted on its front side.

The deceased has been identified as Azaan Zaheer Ansari (12) a resident of Shivneri Nagar in Kondhwa. Police have arrested suspects identified as Rohit Gautam Bansode (27) from Undri, Ajay Vijay Gaikwad (22) and Shreekant Bhimrao Sathe (20), both residents of Krishna Nagar on Mohammadwadi road and Akshay Anil Jadhav (20) from Azad Nagar in Wanawadi.

Ansari’s dead body was found in a forest area near Laxmi Park on Heaven Park society road in Wanawadi on July 10. He was allegedly murdered by the suspects who hit him with a big stone on his head and face. Since the crime happened at a secluded location, Wanawadi police had no clues about the suspects’ involvement. Meanwhile, Ansari’s mother had filed a missing complaint at Kondhwa police station. Police teams from both police stations were working independently on their cases.

Kondhwa had received the last location of Ansari near Ashoka Mew’s society in Kondhwa. He was seen riding on a bike which had no number plate but had a unique sticker on its front side. Police constable Kishor Vale from Kondhwa police station received a tipoff that a bike with a similar sticker was parked in front of Sai Medical in Kondhwa. When Constable Vale reached the location, he saw that the RTO registration number plate was removed from the bike. When they enquired about the bike, it was revealed that it belonged to one Roshan Ajit Singh, a paan stall owner.

Police detained Roshan for interrogation who later spilled the beans on the case. Roshan told police that Ansari, even though a minor by age, was involved in criminal activities in the area. He was demanding extortion money from Roshan and had threatened to burn his paan stall if he was not paid the money. Another person named Satish Gaikwad also had enmity with Ansari.

On Satish’s instructions, Roshan along with Rohit Bansode had picked up Ansari from Ashoka Mew’s society area on July 8 at around 3pm. They took Ansari to the Ganesh Nagar ground via Punyadham road and Mohammadwadi on a two-wheeler. Satish and other three suspects – Ajay, Shreekant and Akshay – reached there after a while and they all went to the secluded forest area to consume liquor. Ansari was then murdered by the four suspects. Kondhwa police arrested the four suspects and handed them over to Wanawadi police.
