Pune: First year admissions for Science, Commerce, Arts degree courses begin

Pune: A day after class 12 exam results were declared by the state and central boards, science, arts and commerce colleges have opened up admissions for first-year degree courses. Interested candidates can visit the official websites of the educational institutes they wish to get in and fill up admission forms starting from Friday (July 17).

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) boards have declared results of class 12 examinations conducted in February and March month this year. Once the results were out, several Science, Arts and Commerce colleges have updated their websites and allowed students to fill up admission forms. However, students interested in medical and other professional courses will have to wait for a few more days, as the government has not yet decided on the dates of entrance exams to be conducted for these courses. Educational institutes in the city might witness a drastic reduction in the number of outstation students applying for admissions this year due to the Covid-19 outbreak situation.

The educational institutes from Pune, Nagar and Nashik districts affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) have around 52 thousand seats vacant for commerce students. Out of these, about 35 thousand cases are for Pune district colleges, 12 thousand for Nashik district colleges and remaining for Nagar district colleges. For science students, there are a total of 32 thousand vacant seats.

Dr Dilip Sheth, Principal, Sir Parshurambhau College said, “We have published information related to the first-year admissions on our college website. Students willing to take admission in our institute can fill up admission forms from Friday itself.”

Dr Rajendra Zunjarrao, Principal, Modern College said, “We have uploaded all information related to the first-year admission to our website on Thursday immediately after the class 12 results were declared. Students have a 15-day period to apply for admission.”
