Pune: Family of four commits suicide due to financial crises

Pune: In a shocking incident, four members of a family, including two children, committed suicide at their residence in Pune due to financial crises claims police.

The incident took place in Sukhsagar Nagar in Bibewadi area on Thursday.

The police have identified the deceased as Atul Dattatray Shinde (33), his wife Jaya (32), Rugved (6) and Antara (3). All residents of Arihant survey number 15/1 Galli number one, Sukhsagar Nagar in Bibewadi area. A case has been filed with Bharti Vidyapeeth police station.

Speaking to Sakal Times senior Inspector in-charge Vishnu Tamahane said, "The incidence of suicide came to light on Thursday late evening after we received a call from the police control room at 11 pm based on which our team rushed to the spot. All of them had strangulated themselves on the rooftop of their house. It seems the suicides might have taken place a couple of days back."

Adding to this he said, " It seems that local resident smelled odour based on which they noticed that the smell was coming from Shinde's house which was unlocked from outside. They repeatedly called and bang the door. They did not respond based on which alerted us. Our staff forcefully open the door and found four of them hanging. The bodies were decomposed." 

Talking about the current situation, Tamhane said, "Shinde had a printing press business and he dealt mostly in printing various identity cards meant for school, colleges and other office purposes. It seems due to lockdown his business was into losses and was struggling with financial crises to pay fees of children and managed household. We are investigating but prima-facie it seems to be a suicide due to financial crises as he uses to talk to his friends on it."

Shinde's owned digital Identity Card business and were staying in a rental apartment. On the bedroom wall Shindes have confessed that they are committing suicides due to financial issues and police must not blame or take action against anyone for our step. With Jaya signature on it.
