Pune: Gusty winds and heavy rains affected the power supply in Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad and district areas. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) officials said that the power supply would be restored in phases by afternoon 3 pm on Thursday.
The power distribution network in Pune city and district areas has been severely affected due to the Nisarga cyclone which made landfall on Wednesday evening in Raigad district. Tree-falling incidents have damaged around 550 power supply lines. Almost 340 power supply lines in Mawal, Junnar, Ambegaon and Khed taluka have been kept closed as a precautionary measure.
Power supply was disrupted in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Bhosari area for the entire day on Wednesday. The power supply was restored in most of the areas by Wednesday night however many parts are still facing problems. Many housing societies faced problems as water pumps could not be operated resulting in disruption of water supply too.
The water supply from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has also been affected due to power outage. Power supply lines in Rasta Peth, NIBM Road, Khadi Machine Chowk, Kondhwa, Undri, Yewlewadi, Wanawadi, Guruwar Peth, Dattawadi, Hingane, Dhayari, Ramtekdi, Mundhwa, Hadapsar, Magarpatta, Pisoli, Keshavnagar, Mohammadwadi, Koregaon Park, Kothrud, Shivane, Warje, Gandhi Bhavan area, Bibwewadi, Dhankawadi, Taljai Pathar, Ambikanagar, Bhilarewadi, Gangadham Road, Katraj areas were affected due to wind and rains.
Shashikant Raut, MSEDCL Public Relations Officer, said, “Cranes were not available at many places to lift the uprooted trees and fallen branches due to which power supply restoration work could not be carried out on Wednesday night. These cranes were made available on Thursday morning and since then work has started on a war footing.”
The Nisarga cyclone has majorly affected Bhimashankar, Ghodegaon, Narayangaon, Pimpalwandi, Naneghat, Manchar, Dimbhe, Aptale, Otur, Alephata areas in Junnar and Ambegaon district. Power supply restoration work in these areas has been started on Thursday morning.
Over 112 power supply lines in Bhosari, Ravet, Akurdi, Moshi, Charholi, Sangvi, Wakad, Bijlinagar, Kharalwadi, Pimple Saudagar areas in Pimpri-Chinchwad were damaged which would be restored by Thursday afternoon, claimed Raut.
