Pune: The joint director's office of education department has issued an official circular stating that 'we do not accept bribes and no one should pay a bribe to any official for getting his work done.'
The joint director's office handles the administrative work related to colleges under the jurisdiction of Savitribai Phule Pune University. About 326 colleges of Arts, Commerce and Science in Pune, Nagar and Nashik districts come under SPPU jurisdiction.
A complaint was filed with Dr Dhanraj Mane, the Director of Higher Education department regarding the delays and pendency in the joint director's office. The joint director's office has also come under the radar after some people complained about corruption in the office, alleging that they were indulging in corrupt practices.
As a result, joint director Dr Mohan Khatal had to issue a clarification about the same. The joint director office has stated in the circular that 'No one should pay a bribe to anyone in this office to get their work done. If any official employee is demanding money to carry out his dutiful work then please report him to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).'
Dr Mohan Khatale said, "There were complaints that personnel working in the joint director's office were asking for money to get anyone's work done. Therefore, a circular has been issued to prevent these practices."
K L Giramkar, President of Savitribai Phule Pune University and College Teachers Association said, "A lot of work, including finalising the salaries of the professors, is not being done in the office of the joint director. It is giving rise to corruption. The work should be done within a month after the file is received at the office. If the work gets delayed, then corrupt practices begin."
Files have been pending for several months regarding salary finalisation under CAS, finalizing professorship, salaries of professors appointed last year and commencement of salaries, non-receipt of PF amount of retired employees, fixing of pay commission for part-time teachers.
