Pune double murder: ‘DW 302’ status message on suspect's mobile leads to arrests of five gang members

Pune: A status message ‘DW 302’ on mobile phone led to arrests of five suspects involved in the double murder that was reported from Shiroli area of Khed taluka in Pune district. The double murder crime was a fallout of rivalry between two gangs operating in Pimpri-Chinchwad area.

Aniket Randive, a criminal-on-police-records and a member of the ‘Akkya Bond’ gang, was murdered at Gharkul in Chikhali area on May 29 by members of Amit Chavan gang. This murder was to avenge a murderous attack on Amit Chavan done by Akkya Bond gang members.

All suspects in the Aniket Randive murder case were arrested by Chikhali police, except two – Niranjan Ashok Gurav (20) and Bajrang Dayanandrao Jadhav (22). The Akkya Bond gang members suspected the involvement of Gurav and Jadhav in the murder of Aniket Randive. To complete their revenge, the Akkya Bond gang killed the duo on August 7 in Shiroli area of Khed Taluka.

Chikhali police on Tuesday (August 11) arrested two prime suspects involved in this Khed double murder case. They were identified as Suraj Randive (20) and Kiran Belamagi (21) from Chinchwadgaon. Earlier, Chikhali police had arrested three persons – Abhishek alias Bablu Uttam Bhalerao (19), Rishikesh Rajendra Wadekar, (22) and Nikhil Shinde (20), all residents of Shiroli in Khed – for allegedly helping Suraj and Kiran in the double murder crime.

Investigations revealed that Suraj had hatched the plot to avenge his brother Aniket’s killing. Bhalerao is the cousin of the main accused Suraj. Bhalerao had provided the tip of the arrival of Gurav and Jadhav in the area after which they were hacked to death with sharp weapons. After murder, their bodies were thrown on a hillock named Harantkedi. Incidentally, their identities were revealed by one Manoj Lokhande, who was arrested by Khed-Rajgurunagar police in an arms act case related to a Pimpri-based youths murder.

Police had no clue about the suspects but suspected Bhalerao’s cousins were involved in the murder. Another suspect Wadekar had also kept a status message ‘DW 302’ on his phone. This tipoff led to the arrest of the three and two other prime suspects.

Meanwhile, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have booked kingpin of the 'Akkya Bond' gang Pandurang Mohol alias Sumit alias Akkya (19), a resident of Mahalaxmi Housing Society in Chikhali and his accomplices Vikas alias Pangya Dhondiram Jadhav (22), a resident of Jijamata Housing Society; Shoaib Israel Shaikh (19), a resident of Saikrupa Society and Vishal Ramdhan Kharat (20), a resident of Otta Scheme under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for spreading fear and terror in Chikhali area. The gang has 18 serious criminal cases lodged against them in different police stations.
