Pune cricket lovers wish Team India all the best

PUNE: As Puneites eagerly wait for the World Cup 2019, a few cricket lovers from the city express their views on the selection of players in the World Cup team announced on Monday.

Pavan Raj, Product Engineer, Automotive Interior Systems
Rishabh Pant and Ambati Rayudu should have been selected in place of KL Rahul and Vijay Shankar. Rayudu could have provided stability in the middle order and in case of loss of early wickets, he has the ability to rebuild and steer the innings. Pant should be there for fire power at the end. I wish Team India best of luck to get the World Cup home.

Nachiket Sahasrabudhe, Advocate
The team is good, but as the World Cup is in England, I feel that Ajinkya Rahane’s experience would have come in much more handy, instead of Vijay Shankar who has never performed on an international platform. And one of the biggest shocks is the absence of Shikhar Dhawan. He was the man of the tournament in the Champions Trophy held in England. He is much better in a 50-over format than Lokesh Rahul.

Sagar Tawade, Project Manager
Team selection was more in line with what was expected largely. The same players were given opportunities to prove themselves in last few series. The middle order in the World Cup team still appears to be weak, lacks consistent performance apart from Captain Virat Kohli. Inclusion of KL Rahul too came as a surprise.

Sagar Mule, IT professional
I am happy that Vijay Shankar, Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja have made it to the team for World Cup. However, I feel that Rishabh Pant should have been selected as well as he is a young and energetic player who has an attacking game that we need, and he is in a good form at present.
