Pune: COVID-19 patient count crosses 90 thousand mark in district

Pune: The total number of Covid-19 patients has crossed the 90 thousand mark in the district on Sunday (August 2) night. Of these, 60272 patients have recovered after treatment on Covid-19. At present, there are 28223 active cases in the entire district area.

The total number of cases reported in the district includes the 3017 new cases identified on Sunday. Of these, most cases were reported from Pune city which was 1762. Pimpri-Chinchwad reported 871, Zilla Parish 259, Municipal Councils 77 and Cantonment Boards reported 48 new cases on Sunday.

The total number of deaths reported in Pune district is 2084 including the 49 deaths that were recorded on Sunday. So far, Pune city has 1393 deaths due to Covid-19, Pimpri-Chinchwad has 387, Zilla Parishad areas have 161, Municipal Councils have 68 and Cantonment Board areas have 75 deaths reported due to COVID-19.

On Sunday alone, total 49 deaths due to Covid-19 were recorded of which Pune city had 32, Pimpri-Chinchwad had 10, Zilla Parishad had 4 and Municipal Councils and Cantonment Boards had total 3 deaths.

The district administration is concerned about the high positivity rate of Covid-19 cases which is around 25 per cent in Pune city as well as district area. The administration has attributed it to effective high risk contact tracing and set a target to reduce it below 10 per cent as per Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) norms.

The Case Fatality Ratio (CFR) has come down from 2.74 per cent to 2.38 per cent. District administration has set a target to bring down the fatality rate down below 1 per cent. Comorbid patient tracing has been increased which will help reach and provide good healthcare services to critical patients in less time and reduce the case fatality ratio.
