Pune cops to use ‘Third Eye’ to keep a check on crime

Pune: Keeping pace with the changing times, Pune city police will soon launch a mobile phone app called ‘Third Eye’ for its personnel.

This app will help the police control crime in the city and will have details of all crimes, accused persons, crime hotspots and court case status.

Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham said, “The app is being developed for better analysis of crimes in the city. The police personnel can get the details at a click. It will help in tracking down criminals also.”

According to police officials, the app is another step towards better management of law and order and to arrest the culprits. At present, the Crime Branch has a department to analyse crimes and it has got all details of criminals and their modus operandi. After any crime in the city, the cops seek information from this department and the process is time consuming.

Taking this into account, Venkatesham proposed to launch an app called ‘Third Eye’, which can analyse crime.  This is being done by making changes according to the crime situation in Pune.

A private company is developing the app under supervision of Crime Branch ACP Sameer Shaikh.

Apart from containing details of crimes and criminals, various types of reports can be generated from the app.  Each police officer and constable will be given a user name and password to get access to this app.

The Pune police already have a facility  to match fingerprints from a crime scene with a database of 6.5 lakh history sheeters from Maharashtra State. This also including 2.5 lakh criminals from Pune. The system is called by police as ‘automated multi modal biometric identification system.’
