Pune cops’ SEVA must be replicated: RTS chief

PUNE: Former Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Swadheen Kshatriya, who is State’s Right to Services (RTS) Chief Commissioner, on Tuesday appreciated Pune City Police’s Service Excellence and Victim Assistance (SEVA) facility, and said that he will recommend to the State government to replicate this facility across all government offices in Maharashtra.

Under SEVA, feedback of citizens is taken about services provided by the police stations in Pune.

Kshatriya inaugurated the SEVA office at the Police Commissioner’s office in Camp on Tuesday. SEVA is the brainchild of Police Commissioner Dr K Venktesham who started the initiative from September 1, 2018.

DCP (Crime) Bachchan Singh explained about the journey of SEVA from the beginning, the working system, feedback mechanism, etc.

A live demonstration was also presented during the inauguration.

According to officials, the name, phone number and photo of every citizen visiting the police station and chowkies are registered in the SEVA tab. In the next 2-3 days, the SEVA staff at the Police Commissioner’s office contact the visitors/complainants and take their feedback regarding their experience of services provided to them. Till now, 1,89,986 citizens have been contacted out of which the complaints of 1,66,709 citizens have been solved. Officer of the rank of Senior Police Inspector and above personally contact the citizens and ensure that the grievances have been solved. Also, NSS students have visited police stations and contacted 28,345 citizens. 1,250 unsatisfied citizens were contacted and the SEVA office has solved their grievances.

Venkatesham said that Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, will provide their valuable opinion for betterment of SEVA process. “The number of citizens visiting Mantralaya, DGP office and other senior offices for their grievances, has come down due to services provided by SEVA. This has reduced the physical and mental stress of the citizens and increased the trust of citizens in Pune police,” Venkatesham said.

Senior police officers including Joint CP Ravindra Shishve, Addl CP (crime)  Ashok Morale, DCP (Cyber &EOW) Sambhaji Kadam, ACP Dr Shivaji Pawar, Vijay Choudhari, Police Inspector Rajendra Mohite, Shilpa Chavan, Geeta Dorge and other staffs were present.
