Pune: A complaint was registered against BJP MLC Gopichand Padalkar in Pune on Thursday over his alleged coronavirus remark on Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar.
The petition application has been moved by Vishal Tambe, of NCP and former Chairman of Standing Committee and Corporator of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) with Sahakar Nagar police station which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pune city police commissionerate. The police have acknowledged the complaint and probing the facts after which they will lodge First Information Report.
As well as a letter has been sent to the Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Minister of State for Home Affairs Satej Patil.
“The Maharashtra state is currently in the grip of coronavirus and all organisations, political parties, police, administration institutions are involved in trying to control the pandemic despite this fact BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar, who was elected to the Legislative Council, has made an offensive statement about party President Sharad Pawar even though there was no background for the discussion. There are chances that his statement will provoke public outrage and create a rift in society. This pandemic is a sensitive issue,” Tambe said in his complaint.
Speaking to Sakal Times Tambe said, "The state is currently focussing on to control this outbreak (coronavirus). In spite of this, he is deliberately trying to create an outbreak in society. We have demanded strict action be taken against him by filing a case against him."
Meanwhile, an FIR was also registered under relevant sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) at Baramati Police Station. Also, many NCP leaders and workers strongly condemned and protested against Padalkar remark in many places of the state.
