Pune: College student allegedly commits suicide

Pune: The unremitting wave of suicides continue in Pune. The 24-year-old college youth committed suicide at his Kothrud based residence on Friday. The police have identified the deceased as Suryakant Subhash Bamane (24), a resident of Shilpa Society in Kothrud, Pune. The Kothrud police which falls under the jurisdiction of Pune city police commissionerate is probing the case.

Suryakant had completed his graduation in Arts from Abasaheb Garware College. His father Subhash is principal in Satara based engineering college while his mother is a teacher. Suryakant resided in Kothrud area and recently shifted to Shilpa society as his society was under redevelopment plan and were staying on a rental basis.

Police Sub-inspector Yashwant Padwal of Kothrud police station who is probing the case talking to Sakal Times, “Suryakant is final year graduation student from Abasaheb Garware College, Pune and was pursuing graduation from Arts stream. He was an introvert who did not talk much but used to talk with his younger sister. On Friday morning, he woke and came out of his bedroom to drink the water and went back to his bedroom. The family members assumed that he might have slept again but he did not wake up till 10 am, this prompted his parents to bang his room. After no response from him, the family members forcefully broke the door and found him hanging.”

The police official added, “Suryakant strangled himself from the ceiling fan with help of nylon rope. We were alerted and rushed to the spot. In the meantime, the family rushed him to hospital but he was declared dead by the doctors. Post mortem was performed on him at Sassoon General Hospital. We are investigating the case to get some clue for the reason that drove him to such a step. Before coming suicide, he formatted his mobile handset and there is no suicide note.”
