Pune Co-op Housing Society Federation writes to the CM

PUNE: The Co-operative Housing Society Federation of Pune has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday, demanding installation of free solar panels on the rooftops of housing societies.

This move was taken after the Mukhyamantri Solar Power Scheme was approved by the Delhi government recently. The scheme states that the housing societies and independent houses will get solar panels installed for free.

According to, Suhas Patwardhan, Chairman of Pune District Co-operative Housing Federation, there are around one lakh co-operative housing societies in Maharashtra and around 17,000 co-operative housing societies in Pune district.

“The societies will be able to utilise energy produced to light up common areas, house needs and several other such things if all these societies would get solar panels installed for free,” Patwardhan added.

Satish Vaidya, a resident of State Bank Nagar, Karve Nagar, has drafted the letter and mailed to the CM on behalf of the federation.

Vaidya said, “There are five building in our societies and the current electricity bill of every month is about Rs 20 to 25,000. In the letter mailed to CM, we have demanded that the State government should also take such similar steps so that the electricity used by housing societies can be diverted to the rural areas and farmers can get benefit through it.”
