In the last two weeks, Pune has been experiencing moderate rainfall in some parts of the city while most others remain overcast.
But according to reports of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is expected to receive heavy rainfall on July 3 and 4. The rainfall is also expected to increase in the ghat areas according to Anupam Kashyapi, director, Indian Meteorological Department.
"So far the city has only experienced moderate rain, but on July 3 and 4 there is a forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall also in isolated areas," added Kashyapi.
Apart from Pune. four districts in Maharashtra have been placed under red alert by the IMD considering a forecast for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall this week.
Districts like Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Satara will also experience heavy rainfall.
For Raigad and Ratnagiri, the department has sounded a red alert for July 2 and 3, while Sindhudurg is expected to experience heavy rainfall on July 2.
Pune is forecasted to experience heavy rainfall on July 3 along with Satara and moderate spells are expected in Kokan and Madhya Pradesh.
Though monsoon typically sets in by the middle of June, it entered a weak phase after its onset on June 10.
A week after the cyclon, Maharashtra experienced bountiful rainfall in many parts, which soon receded.
